I realized I have been too busy to blog lately but today I thought I’d sit down and make a quick update-after all I do have family and friends who read my blog and theres the odd admirer out there. I truly appreciate you all. I am grateful for those who would spend a few moments to read about a complete stranger-sometimes I find myself glancing over blogs dipping into people’s lives even though I have never met them. There’s just so many beautiful people out there and I just love you all.

Anyways I left off with blogs about my child’s birthday bash and my husband locating his biological father. I don;t even know where to begin other than the fact the last 2 months have just been AMAZING! I’ve got stories, I have testimonies and of course no blog would be complete without a few disaster’s right? Guess I’ll start with our amazing trip to Florida to meet our family.

Florida

epcot4

Florida was just WOW! We had a safe journey and I must say that there is nothing better than driving down as a family to meet a new family. You hear so many reuniting stories and ours has a very happy ending. The thing is we were all looking-they were looking for a lost son and my husband was searching for a father. It might have taken 25 years just to be united but it has been well worth it and the only thing that matter is Nick is finally united with a lost family and everyone is happy. Above is a picture of us with his dad.

We drove down in our yellow car, the entire way down was sunny. We stayed in North Carolina overnight and I must say that the folks in Carolina are just so lovely. Everyone is so nice and polite. When we entered Florida the first radio station we found was a Christian music station-talk about a sign eh? We were just so overwhealmed. We made it and family was together at last.

Nick’s father has no other kid’s. Nick’s Step Mum was unable to have children so she was thrilled to have a son, daughter in law and Grand Daughter…even though we’re all a little crazy…but I do believe we fit in just perfectly. Together at last.

epcot7Above is a picture of Missy. Aurora calls her Nana Missy 🙂

epcot3A Florida vacation just isn’t complete without a trip to the beach. Missy took us to New Smyrna Beach, the waves were huge but the water so nice. I was afraid to go in too far but I really enjoyed myself.

epcot2We got to go to Disney world twice as well. It was a wonderful opportunity being able to take my daughter to Disney World, something I have always dreamed of. Mum and Dad knew where all the good places were so our experience was phenominal. Father and son at Disney world, nobody is too old for Disney world so it does not matter that Nick went to Disney world with his dad for the very first time at the age of 25. Some of our greatest moments were Nick and Andrew (Nick’s dad) constantly playing pranks. Missy and I had ice tossed down our backs, water dumped on us etc. It was all fun!

But beyond Disney we had many memorable moments. We got to see Gators, we got to eat gator (Yes tastes like chicken) we survived Tropical Storm Andrea, Nick and Andrew almost blew up the backyard with a deep fryer frying a turkey, we got to play with a potato gun, saw the biggest Cyprus tree in the world, went to church with our Aunt and Uncle and met a wonderful church family who made us feel like we were home-they are totally Florida’s version of Norwood Pentecostal Church and that’s saying a lot because Norwood’s church family ROCKS! We got to meet many family members and were truly embraced and loved…there was just soooo much and it was all a wonderful, wonderful experience.

epcot1epcot6epcot5We had a wonderful 2 weeks in Florida, we ended our trip in St. Augustine exploring the wonderful city. We left at 5pm and some how managed to get home in Ontario by 3pm the next day…we got 2 hours sleep and EVERYONE was speeding…we just went with the flow. Oh we almost hot a deer, that was scary but other than that the trip home was good. Back in cold Ontario so that 2 weeks later we could have a heat wave.

Our new Family

999356_10153054011075171_239441934_nSo we now have tonnes of new family members and are trying to keep track of everyone…while still trying to keep track of our own.  We will meet a few family members at “Big Christmas Dinner” in September. Which by the way we managed to get a flight booked for Dad and Mum (By booked, Nana booked it, we just simply talked Dad and Mum into comming hehe) Wish we could spend Christmas down in Florida but September will have to do. Besides we love our Christmas snow.

27126_111327599068531_1723967906_nfamilyNick is a Ginger, most of his family are Ginger…Nick is definately part of the Rodley clan. As for me, I’ll just bring my crazyness in and add it to the family…families are good with more nuts right? I’m a walnut by the way. Or maybe a Pistacio-I like Pistacios 😀

We had a very good family day just recently and finally got to meet Nick’s Cousin Kina! We just Love her! Can not wait to meet again!

Of course storms

Good news: Our car got us to Florida and Back. Bad News, the Transmission went on it recently and now we have to fork out over $1000 to get it fixed. Good news: We are CAA members. Bad News: No vehicle right now. Good news: We can borrow vehicles and well…we’ve gone so long without one it’s no big deal right? Inconvenient yes, a need? Not really. Although why did it have to happen in the middle of a heat wave? I’ll never complain about the winter again! Cra break downs and stuff like that are just a part of life. Challenges will come, but this time I counted my blessing instead of throwing a fit fest over facebook. It is sometimes better to handle situations with grace than to just go mental. Probably good for the heart too 🙂

But then Blessings

I love how God works, it is just beyond amazing. We had our cousin’s best friend move in with us not too long ago and Nick and I got to share the Gospel. She’s kind of wondering why we’re so excited about this but it’s just refreshing to be able to share…with anyone. I feel blessed being able to have civil conversations with atheists even, any opportunity to share my faith and share about why I’m a changed person I’ll take. It has been just amazing, our room mate obviously came here for a divine reason. She walked into our church and was overwhelmed-someone who has hardly any Biblical background walked in and there was a strong spirit presense and she was over taken. Our church has been waiting for revival for so long…maybe we just need a small push, maybe we need to just snowball and turn into Azusa street all over again. God’s presense has NEVER left any church body-I was told the rain was comming and by God LET IT RAIN! (I think I have a blog entry somewhere about the rain I speak of). I would love to have our beautiful Room mate walk into the family of Jesus Christ. Be a part of a wonderful family, she barely knows anything about Baptism yet she’s got what it’s all about 100%. people don’t need a Biblical scholar background they just need Jesus. The rest will unfold. I’m so excited! We all are!

And VBS!

DSCF8171Kingdom Rock VBS this year was amazing. The kid’s learned to Stand Strong. The points durring VBS week was “God’s Love” “Family and Friends” “Prayer” ” Trusting God” and “The Bible” The kids had a blast and learned so much. On the first day they learned about King David and how he was a shepherd before becomming king. Day 2 we were introduced to Queen Ester and how her family helped her stand strong. Day 3 we got to pray with nehemia and build the walls of Jerusalem (Nick got to play Nehemia by the way he LOVED it and the kids enjoyed building a huge wall out of boxes) Day 4 we got to learn about the greatest love ever, God sending his Son Jesus. That was an emotional day, the stage was FILLED with kids accepting Jesus as their saviour. Day 5 the kids got to smash idols. It was so wonderful. I wasn’t a team leader this year but I got to help where needed and it was great. We all came together as a church family and had 160 children registered! Woohoo!

And that’s my Latest Goslin Disaster Report…More to come 🙂 I’m sure I’ll find time.

Day 1 of 10 week Challenge

Posted: September 13, 2012 in disaster, Faith

I have decided to take a 10 week challenge and journal each day for 10 weeks (Although some blog posts may be a few days worth in one as I can be quite busy)

The point of this is I am going to focus on God each day, ask for revellations each day and journal about it. I belive that testimony and first hand experiences are much more effective than just throwing out scripture at people or letting them know of miracles in everyone else’s lives. I am purposely seeking God and allowing Him to lead me in my every day life.

And what a perfect day to begin this.

Let me start by saying that my morning began as a Natural Disaster, for the last few days I have faced major anxiety and it has been taking a toll on my health. I have recently been fired from a job (Although it’s probably a good thing as I didn’t have a heart to quit the job and I have 3 other jobs that I need to focus on), my 6 year old daughter has been acting up, my house is a write off, raccoons have destroyed all my nice neat tidy garbage, my eating habits suck and my world has been turned upside down and feels like I am in an earthquake with multiple aftershocks.

This morning I woke up at 5:30am, got out of bed after my husband left for work and proceeded to social media. I sat at my computer all morning…even though there really was not anything good on facebook and the news online was quite gloomy like it always is. And there is nothing worse than me stewing in self pity first thing in the morning. What does one do when throwing a pity party? Tell EVERYONE! So that’s what I did…except I kept it simple, I simply stated that I was still in a dark state and I needed God to help me. And then for the first time in a long time I went to God with my problem FIRST. I’m so low in the pickle barrel that I actually had no time to think things over and plan out stupid things…I needed God and I needed to pour it all out to him. So after I posted my status I immediately went to a song that tends to help me when I am in this state of mind.

Pillar: Let it out

I don’t know if we’ll ever really see the day
When we look around and we don’t know what to say
How did we lose our way? I don’t know if we’ll ever really see a change
If this is how we show our thanks, I think it’s time we rearrange
I don’t know if we’ll ever really break away
We’ve been holding on for so long now, I think we’re scared to run away
I don’t know if we ever really learned to pray
So, I drop down to my knees
And I cry out, “Can You help me, please?”

Let it out, can You hear me?
Can You hear me cry?
Let it out, don’t hold back, all this I got inside
Let it out, can You hear me?
Can You hear me cry?
Let it out, don’t hold back now
We’ve got to let it out

I don’t know if we’ll ever really be the same
Or could it be that we feel a sense of shame?
We forgot from where we came
I don’t know if we try to make it all a game
I think it’s time we take the blame
And get back, rekindle this flame

So, when I cry out, are You listening?
I know You can hear me, I know You can hear me
You’re my Comfort, can You hear me?
I know You can hear me, You’re my Comfort
Can You hear me? Can You hear me?

And I let it all out, I haven’t cried this much in a long time. You know one of those good bawlings where your breath is taken away? I cried my heart out. And I needed it. Then off I went to take my daughter to the bus stop. Then I went to ladies Bible Study (which is where I got this idea to blog)

So I asked God to show me some revelation…any little thing that is either a blessing or a miracle.

When I got home from Bible study I took my dog for a walk. There is nothing more fun than having my dog pull me when I am in an anxious state. She picks up on my emotions and acts accordingly, if I am anxious so is she. But alas I had to walk the pooch. Halfway through my walk I noticed she was heeling most of the time with th occassional need to sniff stuff. My dog has NEVER acted this way. For once, she walked so nicely. It was such a blessing to have my german Shepherd not try and pull my arm off. That in itself is a Miracle, I’ll take it.

I have also been praying for my daughter and her behaviour at school. She was kicked out of school yesterday and she is only in grade 1. I got the call from the school today…I looked at my phone, saw the number and hesitated. “Oh great, what did she do now?” I thought. I picked it up and it wasn’t a call regarding her beahiour it was simply her teacher letting me know she had an accident, a minor one, she walked into a door knob and got a nice shiner >< ahhh what a kid. She didn’t cry, just informed her teacher that the door attacked her. I questioned her behaviour today and the teacher has reported she’s amazing today and they have implemented a routine that works. Praise Jesus for good teachers these days! After the morning I had I am so happy to hear some wonderful news.

I’m excited about what can be revealed to me and what i can notice in my new state of mind. I just really need to walk with my Lord and trust Him. I really don’t care what others say, and I have a support group of Epic proportion. I am absolutely in love with my Saviour and it is about time I Let it all out!

And maybe eat some icecream too while I’m at it.

It’s not even Spring yet.

I live near peterborough Ontario in Canada. Snow is melted, pond almost thawed, I think I blinked and missed winter. I won’t complain though, unless you are a snowmobiler or a snowboarder chances are you despise winter too.

I remember last year getting all excited about the first Thunderstorm which occured Mid April. It was a good one. I recall muttering “Wow, a Thunderstorm before May.” This time I caught myself saying “Wow a storm before April!”

Some people are probably going to blame Global Warming as if they haven’t seen green grass in March before. Yes mild winters have infact occured, winters just like this one but yet there are still the Global Warming accusers. I agree that Global Warming occurs but blaming a few odd weather occurences on it is just silly.

This brings me to the first Storm of 2012. This system flattened a house in Michigan, sparked Tornado warnings in Canada and brough hail and a good light show. How big was the hail you ask?  Toonie sized…

Toonie sized hail. For readers who have no clue what a Toonie is it’s Canada’s $2 coin…which has the radius of half a golf ball.

Or the size of the actual hail pictured above. Could be worse, I’m sure after this loveley weather there would be more complaints if we got a snow storm instead.

There was no hail here where I live but Peterborough got quite the rain fall causing some roads and parking lots to flood. And man did we ever get rain, it woke me up at 2am right before Mother Nature started to Roar. Her Roars competed with my Husband’s snores and I lay awake listening to the fury of a March storm. We had a good light show around 10pm as well which I watched and was quite gleeful about…but waking up at 2am? Well that just sucks.

But alas, thanks to a sinus infection I was forced out of bed and stuck my head ut my window to watch the wonderful display of lightning that came with the storm. I didn’t snap the above photo but this was taken somewhere in Ontario. Lightning is so pretty yet so destructive.

And thanks to an early Series of storms I have something to blog about. Other than waking my whole town up at 2am there was no local storm damage. We were treated to Nature’s fireworks and got a taste of whats to come. And with high springlike temperatures for the next 2 weeks I’m sure more storms might just be produced in March or Early April.

Spring is here. It’s here a wee bit early, infact for once the Ground Hog was actually right! I’m very happy we got our first series of Thunder Storms 🙂 and now I look forward to what Mother Nature has in store for us next…well after we get our home insured for storm damage anyway.

Don’t jinx Mother Nature

I should know better by now not to laugh and insult the weather. “Ha! Is that all you’ve got?”

The Weather wasn’t wrong but Environment Canada’s prediction on timing was.

I expected to wake up in the morning and see a covering of snow on the ground. When I woke up there was a light dusting, it was snowing lightly and school wasn’t even cancelled. That’s right the local kids in the Kawartha lakes/Peterborough area had to trek to school after all…not a single bus cancelled. The Snow suddenly stopped and that’s when I began to laugh. “Aha! Once again, the stupid weather network was wrong!”

But then why were we still under a snowfall warning? What snowfall?

Ooooooh THAT snow. Heavy, blowing snow…and it’s not even half over yet. It’s not the worst snowfall I’ve seen but the Weather Network was right, we did get our 15cm of snow AND Roads really suck.

On the bright side my German Shepherd LOVES it and has rolled around in glee on the porch.

It’s also snowman making snow, so I’m probably going to be out there later with my daughter to build some forts and snowmen…once that wind stops of course.

Lesson has been learned, I shall not scoff at Mother Nature.

Valentine’s day used to be a huge tradition for me, as a girl it was one of those ‘holidays’ I absolutetely had to celebrate and if my boyfriend at the time screwed up there was trouble.

Valentine’s day is a day for men to show romance to their girls by buying them stuff, taking them out to dinner etc. Millions of Dollars are spent every year on cards, jewelry, roses, restaurants etc. I’m quite confident that not too many men are more excited about Valentine’s day than ladies unless they are one of those super romantics. Heaven forbid a man forget Valentine’s day.

My Husband ‘forgot’ it one year. I gleefully went and bought him chocolates, a card and a cute stuffed animal (Which was actually more for me and now my daughter owns it along with my other 20 Valentine’s day stuffies) February 14th rolled around and I got nothing. I was jipped, I was upset, how could he forget Valnetine’s day?

I cried, I screamed, then I angrily ate half his chocolates. I walked up to him with a huff and threw the half eaten box of chocolates onto his lap. “Happy Valentine’s day.” I muttered then walked away. No fancy dinner, no movie, nothing.

What man is dumb enough to forget Valentine’s day intentionally?

Or better yet, what man is dumb enough to go out the next day to purchase Valentine’s day stuff? My husband was. And it was an act of bravery. But he went to the Drug Store after work, bought a whole bunch of stuff, 4 cute valentine’s day plushies, some chocolate, lots of candy…

Most men today would get in even more crap for being a day late with Valentine’s day. It doesn’t matter how much money they spend, the girl would feel enraged. There’s not enough flowers, jewelry or candy to satisfy a woman the day after Valantine’s day. I’ve met many men who’ve been dumped because they were a day late, heck I’ve met men who got dumped because they bought the wrong gift! There are lots of shallow ladies out there.

But I’m not shallow, I forgive very quickly. So when my husband got home from work on the 15th and threw 4 cute plushies at me and dumped a bag full of candy onto the bed I smiled. Yes it was a day late BUT because it was a day late I got more because Valentine’s day stuff is 50% off the day after Valentine’s day! You know, I actually saw where my Husband was going with this. I get more on the 15th for the same price we’d have spent before Valentine’s day! And I was cool with that.

So now we have a tradition. We eat a nice romantic dinner on the 14th then go out the next day to purchase clearance candy. We’ll get a plushie or two as well but our daughter usually picks them out for herself. We go home, load up on sugar and are super happy. Not too many couples do what we do but I’m sure there are planty of single people who do go out the next day to stock up on wonderful Chocolate and candy laced with Red Dye #40.

So couples, maybe you should consider this tradition. After all February 14th is just a stupid date. Honestly if you have to wait for Valentine’s day to get romance your relationship sucks. It should be February 14th everyday or at least randomly. Single folk, no worries, nothing is stopping you from indulging on goodies-plus more for you! If your single, try getting stuff for your friends and family. Valentine’s day isn’t a day of love it’s a day to indulge on sugar and aquire diabetes! (and for those who already suffer from diabetes there are lots of yummy sugar free candies out there as well)

One of my favorite things to do in this world is to help others. Sometimes I help others even if it means I’ll be pulling hair out of my head. But I absolutely love being helpful, showing kindness and just giving. Sometimes my acts of kindness just make no sense especially to my husband, people seem to think that making sacrifices is crazy, but he has learned that through sacrifices I’m happier than a Dog with a pile of Scooby Snacks. My husband sacrifices his time in a different way, he fixes everyones computers for free so thats his way of being helpful. However this story is an act of kindness where I realized I’m probably a bit over my head.

A plea to help rehome some animals was posted on Facebook, 2 iguanas and 3 dogs needed new homes as the owners had to move to small apartment and they didn’t have phone or internet to do the whole Kijiji thing. If they placed the animals on Kijiji they’d go like hot cakes. I wasn’t interested in the dogs but without thinking I sent an email requesting the iguanas. I had been reseaching iguanas for years, my husband and I wanted to build a habitat and get an iguana and here I was faced with adopting 2! And voila just like that I became the parent of 2 green iguanas.  But the owners faced a dilema, they really needed to rehome the dogs as soon as possible because they direly needed to start packing. It’s pretty hard to move things out of a house with 2 puppies and a Doberman who’d bolt out the door as soon as it opened. So I decided that since I have access to Kijiji and had a friend interested in the Doberman I may as well foster them at my house and rehome them.

It would only be for a few days…how hard can an extra 3 dogs be? It’ll be fun.

I forgot how much and often puppies go to the bathroom >< I realized that I had to walk each dog individually because they weren’t yard trained like mine. I have no fence.

No fence? No problem. I’ll just let them run amok in my big back yard. My big, icy back yard. Full of large sticks. I’m terrified when my dog picks up a large branch and weilds it, I was ten times more terrified when the Doberman picked up a branch and came running at me multiple times. My dodging was pretty good though so no injuries thankfully. The dogs liked their freedom so much we had to go on a dog rodeo to try and wrangle them all back into the house. My husband and I had to run around on the icy ground trying to catch all 3 dogs.

Puppies sure are cute but they are a lot of work. I seemed to have forgotten how much mess my dog made when she was a puppy. I was impatient for the day she became an adult dog and sometimes I’m still finding myself awaiting the day she matures even more. These two puppies, Shepherd Lab mixes were certainly full of energy. I assumed after they ran around all day they’d eventually get pooped out and sleep all night. WRONG!

My dog slept all night as a puppy but not all dogs are my dog. Every dog is different. I placed these guys in the livingroom around Midnight to go to bed. Did they fall asleep? Nope, they howled, ran around and scratched at the door. So I got out opf bed to let them come upstairs in hopes that they’d simply sleep upstairs in our room. No such luck, The Doberman managed to fall fast asleep on our bed along with our German Shepherd but the puppies continued to run amok causing havoc. They got into the cat food, the dog food, they chased our cat…I had enough so I grabbed their leashes, tied em up and voila they slept for a good 2 hours before waking up at 4am and going to the bathroom…on my stairs, the only carpet in the house >< and puppy poop is not easy to clean AND it smells!

Alright we made it through the night. Morning came and it was time to let the puppies out to go to the bathroom. Unfortunately as I was getting dressed both puppies took a dump AND went pee. My fault for letting them drink so much before bed. How much pee can one puppy hold? Enough to go pee on the floor then 5 minutes later go pee on the bed :O I was just swamped.

If only I had a fenced in yard. Sigh.

But although I had a hair pulling experience I still had much fun. The dogs are all great and I got to scare a bunch of people when I took the Doberman for a walk. The Doberman is sweetie and is infact much more well behaved than my dog. I’m very happy to have found homes for all three dogs. Enthusiastic dog lovers will be giving these guys forever homes. Both the puppies are gone now and the lovely Doberman will be going to a new home this week. I’m just overjoyed I could help someone out, get to play with puppies for a day and provide great homes for these dogs. While I faced a wee bit of a disaster (Dogs constantly stalking me, avoiding doggie land mines etc) I had an amazing time.

And as I find myself still wanting to keep the Doberman I take a look outside my office door and see two big whining sucks looking back at me. I probably can’t resist but I know very well, one big Suck up is more than enough and someone is going to really enjoy the company of the beautiful sweetheart of a Doberman. 🙂

That and I’m pretty sure the cats will be relieved once they only have one dog to deal with.

It is clear that if Mother Nature does exist it is obvious that only a female could take on such a role. Nobody has ever called it “Father” Nature likely because if men were able to control the weather it would always be that perfect comfortable temperature and weather conditions, it would probably only rain over night so men would be able to go out golfing…or fishing…or hunting…or whatever.

But no, it is clear that Nature is indeed female. Why? Most females can’t seem to make up their mind! I’ll even vouch that I cant even make up my mind most of the time, simple questions like “Where should we go for dinner?” confuse me and send me into chaotic spiral of hair pulling. And when we do know what we want we NEVER tell anyone!

Mother Nature has been having a bad bout of Bipolar this winter in Southern Ontario. I’m sure she’s all over the place too, infact today it’s raining where I live, snowing out west, down right tropical in the East and probably frozen somewhere in Canada (Yes I just said that, frozen SOMEWHERE not EVERYWHERE). The last two weeks alone have gotten us all wondering what the heck is up with the weather.

It all started with a green New Years followed by snow, followed by temperatures that melted all the snow. Then it snowed again, freezing rain followed, more snow, no snow, cold as hell, warm again, more snow…then it went from -22 celcius to 2 celcius in a matter of hours followed by rain which is occuring today and more cold temperatures tomorrow followed by snow then guess what? More rain! It’s January! It’s winter! And Mother nature can’t make up her damn mind.

Mother Nature is pissing everyone off. People can’t go skiing because it’s either too cold or too rainy. Ice is not safe because it keeps melting then freezing then melting then freezing. Snowmobilers take advantage of the night to go enjoy their snow mobiles because they know very well the next day will probably bring rain! Heck I actually saw people take their motorcycles out just last week durring that one lovely warm sunny day. The weather is so inconsistent we have all tossed out hands in the air and just gave up.

I’ve been wanting to write a storm blog for weeks and the only weather we get is small but annoying weather systems. No huge snowfall, no disasterous ice storms, not even a consistent thaw!  The Weather changes so much I actually had to include everyday in one disaster blog. I don’t know what the next day will bring, all I know is that after todays rain melts some of the snow it’s all going to freeze tomorrow making a nice jagged frozen slush mess. School buses get cancelled over 2 centimeters of snow because Mother Nature decides it’ll be fun to throw in some freezing rain before the snow hits…when I was a kid I was told to suck it up and go to school, I’m not even that old and I remember walking to school in 2 feet of snow. Then again I recall Toronto being shut down over a half foot of snow in 2008. Today if even the slightest weather occurs be it fog, sleet, a light dusting of snow, rain, even the sun, I find myself checking to see if school has been cancelled (I don’t go to school, I have a  daughter who is in Kindergarten).

Mother Nature, you are driving us all crazy. Thanks to you we can’t even put away seasonal clothing because it feels like we’re getting every season this winter. I might even have to wear shorts in February! Who knows? But if you don’t stop being Bipolar soon, I won’t have any awesome weather blog posts to write ><

This time of year I hear everyone discuss their big new Years eve plans. Most involve going out to get drunk, some involve hitting up one of the many big events and others are similar to most of my New Year events…staying at home and relaxing.

I’ve always dreamed of attending one of the huge New Years eve bashes but alas I never have…perhaps I never will. But as we get closer to counting down yet another new year I just have to reflect on a few of the eventful bashes that I have had.

1998 When I was 10 and counting down 1998, my first ever countdown, I headed on over to my BFF’s house. Oh yeah, it was major Partay mode. We made popcorn, we watched Spiceworld, Grease and Southpark, we ate tonnes of junk and we counted down with our home made construction paper confetti. Party of the year right there…was I destoned to be a party animal?

2000 Well this stinks! But mostly for my older brother who counted down the new year with his little sister (Me) with our home made punched out confetti. End of the world? Not really…big dissapointment, hopefully 2012 delivers.

2003 My friend was throwing a huge house party! Ok, it was actually just 3 of us. We ate like 10 pounds of sugar, made a few prank calls, wandered around the neighbourhood for a bit then pulled an all nighter. And the next day I attended the Oshawa Generals Hockey game, because attending a Hockey game that’s sold out is a great idea after an all nighter. I was so Zombied out I even looked at my crush and smiled…three times. I looked stoned out of my mind, but I wasn’t…I might have been comming off a sugar crash though.

2004  Yet another big house party at my friend’s house. This time we added a member to the bash, Nick, who is now my husband. This time we ran amok Toilet Papering trees and egging houses. Yep so mature. The next day my Dad informed  me that the Highschool feild had been Toilet papered and I attempted to keep a strait face. “Me? I was at my friend’s house…why on earth would we go Toilet paper stuff?”

2005 Fireworks and teens. What could go wrong? Nick, a few friends and I spent our hard earned cash on Fireworks, had roman candle wars and lit the Highschool feild ablaze with fireworks at 11pm. The cops were called so we booked it and proceeded to Paint ball the neighbourhood. No worries though they were water soluble paint balls thus were washed away by the rain.

2006 This was the year Nick and I were destined to have a big bash. Problem was both of us were sick like dogs and I was 3 months pregnant. There was no count down, we passed out by 11pm.

2008 First new years bash at our new house. We had a few firnds over and had a huge party…ok no we didn’t, there was 4 of us and we played Dungeons and Dragons till Midnight then lit some fireworks. It was an awesome display though.

2009 Had a bit more friends over and we counted down the evening by watching some movies that were not released to Theater or DVD yet. They were geeky movies so it was another geek filled night…infact I actually have pictures of that evening..but I’ll post one because most of them are lame…note the fact we are junking out on Pop and chips…paaaaaartay!

2010 Did the same thing as 2009 with less people…

2011 Call of Duty Black Ops party! Because a few of our friends decided to stay home too. So we all got online, and played some Nazi Zombies.

So what about my plans for 2012? Well…it’s likely going to involve yet another lame at home party with plenty of junk food and video games. Have all my New years events been lame? Yep, pretty much? Am I satisfied? You net ya, I probably would not trade these lame count downs for the world. Best part of it all, no hang over in the morning because I don’t drink…also I’ll probably spend time with all the other at home people through Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus. I’m not alone…lame Party Goers UNITE!

Friday Fail-The fame fail.

Somedays, you’re seriously just not meant to be famous…or talented for that matter.

But what is every 7th grade girl’s dream? To be a super star of course. How does one become a super star? Well the school talent show duh!

Only one issue…other than making a fool out of myself, I had no talent. But my good friend Ashley was determined to enter the talent show and she sure as heck wasn’t going to do it alone. She needed a backup singer! She needed an idiot like me!

So we headed to Ash’s house to practice our songs. She chose to sing “No Scrubs” bt TLC and I chose “Beautiful Life” by Ace of Base…and just so everyone knows we used cassette tapes. That’s right, everytime we went to practice our song we had to rewind the damn tape! I’m surprised my Ace of Base tape even survived because it was one of 5 tapes I owned at the time so it got listened to a lot. The other 4 tapes I owned were songs I recorded off the radio. There was no MP3 downloading in my days, I didn’t even own a CD player until the 8th grade!

So there we were in the basement practicing our singing. “We kinda…can’t sing…” I muttered.

“Yeah I know…wanna lip sync the songs?” Ash replied.

“Yeah!” I said. Because Lip Syncing is so cool. All the cool kids lip Sync. So we practiced lip syncing, we made up a few random dance moves and we were good to go! We were going to knock everyone’s socks off.

When it was our turn to perform our melodious lip sync we went up on the stage with smiles. Belive it or not three other kids totally did lip syncing before us so obviously lip syncing was the best thing since sliced bread. We sang “Beautiful life” First and it’s a shame I didn’t just grab the microphone and sing it anyway because I’m convinced I had mastered it from the thousand times I sang it in my bedroom. But there was no last second microphone grabbing, I just stood there as stiff as a board with only my mouth moving. I think I may have swayed back and forth a few times though like a penguin. Durring our second song we got booed by the boys…well of course we did, we were singing “No Scrubs” and those boys weren’t even old enough to be scrubs yet! A friend of ours in the front row kept making hand gestures which I finally figured out meant “Dance damnit!” about half way through the song so I started to dance…thank God nobody got this on film!

We finished our song, got off the stage and my optimistic friend said “I think we did good!”

Yeah…I’m thinking I’m just glad we never pulled this stunt in highschool >< And I don’t think our talent really got discovered.

I wrote this blog last Friday and it decided not to post…but here it is…Friday Fail Christmas edition.

Grade 9 and I’m put in charge of the Christmas home room door decoration. Grade 9 and I really just wanted to please my friends…so they put me up to decorating my door with a picture of The Grinch wearing a hockey jersey with the number 18 on it…

Let me begin with the significance of The Grinch and the number 18.

There was this guy at our school, we’ll call him Nathan because that’s actually his name. One of my friends had a crush on this Nathan guy, myself and the rest of our circus clique did not particularily like Nathan because we thought he was rather stuck up and arrogant. Nathan was (And still is) a Hockey player and he wore the Number 18 on his jersey…and he still wears the number 18…for the Boston Bruins >< Oh and he looks like the Grinch too…he didn’t get that nick name because of his attitude.

So I madly drew a picture of the Grinch, added a Jersey, colored the jersey Red and white (Team colors! Red White and Blue) Added the number 18, put the picture on the door and looked back and marveled at my creation that actually really sucked. But my class thought it was cute “Awww he’s wearing a football jersey!” >< My class never really understood my motives.

The bell rang for lunch, I caught up with my friends in the school feild and got smacked (and I think shoved a few times…I was in an abusive friendship situation). “Oh myyy Gawd! How could you!? He saw that door decoration and he’s pissed! You are such a B****! He thinks we did it! You better go and say sorry to him!”

“But you guys dared me to…”

“Shut up! And don’t show your face around the ramp anymore! You think we actually meant what we said? We were joking and your dumb enough to actually go and do it!” (I really should have taken that advice and stayed away from the back of the school…it would have saved me 2 years of embarassing moments)

I went home wimpering, feeling bad…I stayed away from the back of the school for a total of 2 days, my friends forgave me, and I was nice enough to cover the number 18 with a snowflake.  But the damage had been done, Nathan had seen the creation and knew it resembled him. He wasn’t being the Grinch…I was. I have yet to appologize him…but he called me names in grade 10 so we’ll just call it even. Sometimes I wonder if he knew I was fully responsible.

All I wanted to do was fit in and be the group clown and I failed. But for some odd reason, Nathan Horton will always be the Grinch in my heart. He looked like the Grinch when he was 16 and he still looks like the Grinch today. See for yourself in the pictures below.

And on the bright side…I got to cross “Get insulted by famous person” off my bucket list 🙂
