I remember a few years ago making the comment “It would be really cool if Avon started to sell hair dye.” This was before I became an Avon rep and I always assumed that if Avon ever did come out with color they’d come out with maybe 6 shades.

The wait is finally over and Avon hair dye, in 25 shades will be available in April to avon customers. But if you are an Avon rep you can already order the hair dye and try it out. And I did just that so I have a review for those who might be thinking “Can Avon really compete with big store brands of Hair dye?”

First off, let me start by saying I’ve been coloring my hair for many years out of pure boredom, I love to change my hair color and I have gone almost every color under the rainbow. I’ve done salon grade dye jobs as well as store bought boxes of dye. I don’t think my hair has been it’s natural color since I was in grade 8 (My natural colour is ash brown…I think…) I’ve only messed up the color about twice but thankfully darker colours always came to the rescue.

Above is a before photo. Notice that I have multiple colour in my hair as a result of using Manic Panic, a semi permanent and non toxic hair dye. I like to keep a jar of it handy for touch ups when I dye my hair red. It doesn’t matter what hair dye you use, red always fades fastest. With Manic Panic you can get a shade of red and just lightly brush it through your hair to tint it red again. I haven’t touched my hair in weeks so it’s all sorts of random shades of red and brown. My hair is a dark brown naturally and store bought dye never lightens it well.

I almost picked a dark color of red but opted for the lighter True Red and the above picture is the result. It lightened my roots nicely and evened out my hair color. And I have some very possitive feedback. Also I got plenty of compliments from people and my facebook feed was busy with feedback. (just a small warning, at first my hair looked a bit orange but after a few hours it set to a nice shade of light red and after one wash it looks even nicer) I wouldn’t actually  care if my hair turned Orange but I’m sure others would…

I’ll compare Avon hair dye to popular store brand dyes.

Store Brand Dyes are messy and tend to stain the skin and anything it comes into contact with such as the flooor, sink or walls. Avon hair dye didn’t stain a single thing in my bathroom.

Store Brand Hair dye smells strong. Avon dye while applied smelled about the same but not nearly as strong.

Store Brand Hair dye has the tendancy to stain skin. Avon Hair dye came off the skin with Soap and Water, no scrubbing required.

Store Brand Hair dye takes forever to rinse out. Avon hair dye rinsed out within a minute and didn’t stain the shower. I was shocked at how non messy it was.

Store Brand Hair dye tends to stain the pillow for the next 3 days. Avon hair dye didn’t leave a single spot on my pure white pillow. My Hair was even damp when I went to bed…a big no no with store brand dyes, if you don’t dry your hair before bed prepare to see dye stains everywhere (If you use brown, red or black)

Store Brand Hair dye costs an average between $10-$15 a box. Avon hair dye is affordable at only $7.99 a box.

I’m thinking Avon hair dye will be a big hit, I already have pre orders for the stuff 🙂 However I have heard from a few people who said the dye didn’t work (Ie, turned hair orange) my advice is if you are not sure before coloring your hair ALWAYS do a strand test because having a small streak of orange is better than a whole head of orange. All hair types are different so always test before trying especially if you are first time hair coloring.

So if you use store brand hair dye, try out Avon’s new line of hair dye! Chances are there is a perfect shade for you.

Never thought I’d see the day I wrote a “Beauty” Blog post but here it is…my very first Beauty product blog post 🙂

Avon-chances are you know someone who sells avon or know someone who knows someone who sells avon. Avon has been in business for 125 years providing women with great quality beauty products and collectibles. Now Avon offers not only a beauty line but also offers gifts, fashion, men’s stuff, kids stuff, cook wear and more. I have had the opportunity to go Avon spend crazy because I am an Avon rep. I signed up because my friend was after leadership status and I figured “Hey why not? I can order avon and have it come to my door.” I get discounts, great offers…it’s honestly well worth it to be an Avon rep just for the discounts. There is no minimum order and cost to sign up in Canada is a mere $10! No other fees! I’ve already gotten free stuff from Avon so I am so glad that I became an Avon sales lady.

So what are 10 Avon must haves?

1. Anew Skincare line

There is an Avon skincare line for EVERYONE and even men use the facial skin care line. There are cleansers, day and night creams, specialized serums, eye creams and more. You can choose to use one or two of the skin care products or go all out and use all of them for a daily routine.

Most importantly they do not feel greasy. You do not have to use a lot either, infact it’s recommended you use a thin layer as too much can actually make your face break out. No need for that horrid green mask facial with cucumbers, just wash face with a cleanser, apply a cream and away you go! The Anew Facial line is one of Avon’s top sellers and Avon Laboratories are always working on perfecting better product. Anew is affordable and it works.

I use Anew Rejuvinate cleanser, it is a 30+ cleanser and even though I am only 24 I still LOVE this cleanser. It is a gel cleanser with microbeads and it leaves my face feeling fresh and soft! I use Avon solutions Banishing cream in the day time as I have an uneven skintone. This cream is only $5 and not part of the Anew line. I use the 40+ night cream (Pictured above) to rid of fine lines as well as create an even skin tone and glow. I also use the newest skincare line which is Genics, so far Avon has only released a night cream but is working on perfecting the rest of the Genics line. I have very sensitive skin and find that the face creams do not irritate my face.

2. Avon Slippers

Comfy, affordable and every so often Avon has a line of Chic and cute slippers…like the Hello Kitty slippers pictured above! Avon carries NHL slippers, slippers with bling, bootie slippers and more. I have about 5 pairs of avon slippers so I can tell you they are a must have. They make great gifts!

3. Footworks

Forget the Spa! Treat your feet at home! Plenty of scents to choose from such as Lavender, Chocolate, Mocha, Berry Mint and more. Avon always comes out with delicious new scents. And of course they have everything you need. Inflatable foot baths, foot soaks, lotions, scrubs, callus creams, foot masks, overnight treatments and much more. Avon has everything you need for a complete foot pampering. And men, no need to send your ladies to the spa, you can shop avon and treat her to a foot massage! It’s much more romantic…and will save you money!

4. Glazewear Lip Gloss

I am a lip gloss fanatic and have lip gloss in pretty much every drawer, coat pocket and purse in the house. I store lip gloss like a squirrel stores nuts for the winter. pinks, nudes, reds, sparkle, shine and intense…easy to apply even without a mirror. Mini sizes are available too!

5. Mascara

You are supposed to toss mascara out after 3 months of usage as bacteria can start to grow in your mascara. Avon Mascara is affordable, it’s amazing and when it’s on sale it’s always a good time to stock up. And again, Avon offers all sorts of different mascaras.I have been using Avon Mascara for years, it is by far my favorite kind of mascara.

6. Perfume

So many scents to choose from! There is a perfect scent for everyone. Avon also offers Men’s cologne too! My absolute fave is Outspoken by Fergie. It has a Starfruit musk scent and it is Avon’s top selling fragrance. Fergie is the Lead singer for the band “The Black eyed Peas.” and she is not the only celebrity who has a scent by Avon. Reese Witherspoon, Patrick Dempsey and Zoe Saldana to name a few, have scents with Avon. I own multiple Avon scents, they smell great and are very affordable. Why go and spend $100 on some signature scent when you can pay $12-$38 on a great quality scent from Avon?

7. Bubble bath

I love to relax in the tub and I have a 5 year old daughter who absolutely LOVES Bubble baths. There are plenty os scents to choose from too. They also leave your bathroom smelling great after a bath. I know people who actually diffuse Bubble bath for it’s scent by adding a capful to boiling water! I’ve had issues with other bubble baths irritating my skin but Avon bubble bath does not bother my skin one bit 🙂 There is even a bubble bath for those with sensitive skin.

8. Skin so soft

Have to LOVE Avon’s classic signature line! Skin so soft bath oil has been around for years and it is still an Avon favorite. Now Skin So Soft offers body wash, creams, and more. Skin so soft is even great for pets too! I’ve given a pot belly pig a massage with the Skin so Soft bath oil and people use it to apply to horses for a soft coat and fly repelant! I love to add a capful of Bath oil in my tub (With my bubble bath of course) and use all the Skin So soft product.

9. Avon jewelry

The above Necklace is being sold by Avon right now…and of course if you’ve guessed by now I LOVE Hello Kitty and I’m of course currently wearing the necklace…and earrings…and slippers. Avon offers all sorts of great quality jewelry. From chic, to classic to edgy Avon has it all. Avon always has something new so chances are you’ll find something you love. I have yet to have a quality issue with Avon jewelry and the prices are just amazing! Check out an Avon brochure now and see for yourself.

10. Nail Polish

Love Avon’s nail polish! I probably have every color by now. Those are my nails pictured above painted in Avon nail polish (Green, pink and crackle) I have had people ask me if I went and got my nails professionally done! Stay tuned to new Avon nail polish colors and who knows…maybe the popular crackle in different colors. I’ve tried other crackle polish and most don’t work very well, others will only work with the same brand of nail polish. Avon Nail polish is only $3.49 each! What an amazing deal! And do not forget the nail care product as well 🙂

My adventures as an Avon rep has been great so far! I’m loving the fact I get to try new stuff and show my customers and friends. I’m not just selling Avon I am testing it too and loving it!

Here I am yet again bringing you fall fashion trends from my perspective. I’m very unfashionable and I sometimes think from a male perspective on things. Bad news guys, this years Fall trends for women are HORRID! I mean just when you thought Spring 2011 was horrible wait till you see the trends of Fall.

#1. Someone get out the Twister Board! Polka Dots are IN!

Polka dot tops, skirts, dresses, coats…yes polka dots are a go this fall. Wearing Dotted clothing isn’t all THAT bad but I just saw a few run way pictures and immediately thought of playing Twister. I don’t even think I own a garment with dots…oh wait hold up, I have adorab;e polka dot panties…with lace and lace is in too but I’ll get to that later.

Picture above: Polka Dot NO NO! I’m actually dizzy from looking at these pictures.

Picture Below: Polka dot acceptable. Not so bad, it’s actually kinda cute and does not make me dizzy. I’d wear something like this. But I would NOT top it off with a Polka Dot sweater or jacket…

#2. Lace on the outside?

I saw some pretty bad lace fashion photos but alas they were run way pics and those do  not count. NOBODY actually does outside in Runway clothes right? Well…other than Lady Gaga anyway. Lace isn’t so bad, I find it uncomfortable if it’s just Lace alone but if it’s lace over top of something it isn’t so bad. I have a cute lace skirt…and lace panties that are full of polka dots…and well…I have a Lace skirt YAY!Below is a pic of a cute lace dress. Black lace is always acceptable to me. Just don’t wear it sheer with only a Bra underneath…talk about Tacky!

#3 The BOLD and the Beautiful.

Bold solid colours. Ok…NO NO NO NO NO! The ONLY colour anyone should wear solid is shades like Black, white, grey etc. But Bold Yellow, Bold Blue, Bold neon green??? What the heck is the fashion industry THINKING? “Hey Ladies lets go out in our Bold colours today! You be the Pink Power Ranger and I’ll be the Red Power Ranger!”

Just don’t do it. Do one bold article of clothing and mix it with neutrals or something…wearing a sweater and pants that match in the exact color is just wrong…especially yello, orange, bright red…anything that can make you look like a power ranger.

I have a few bold looks up my sleeve though, I plan on having Bold nail colours and Bold hair colours…in fact I’m going to dye my hair blue, that’s pretty bold. Think that’s silly? Just wait till you see what I plan on doing with my hair at Christmas. Oh yeah, I’m going to rock nerdy Christmas sweaters with festive hair all December? Why? Because I’m unfashionable that’s why!

#4. Austin Power’s called, he’d like the 60’s back

The 60’s is trending too…I have no comment. Wait…Polka dots are so 60’s and so are Bold colours! So go rock out Twister Boards!

#5. Man up!

Women wearing Men’s Clothes! So not sexy. But I wear my husband’s Boxers around the house sometimes and I ALWAYS steal his sweaters and T-shirts. I’ve been doing it for years! I’m all set! Actually by men’s wear they do mean blazers and stuff…girls in suits?I think there was a news article the other day about how guys can’t stand it when girls wear men’s suits. So take note ladies…don’t cross dress. Their suits are uncomfy anyways…try stealing their hoodies, now those are comfy.

#6 Plaid!

Now I’m sure they mean cute dainty plaid right? Like cute little plaid ponchos and jackets? Probably all in BOLD colors too because remember ladies, Bold is IN! Plaid is ALWAYS a hit where I’m from, I live in a hick town so the whole Lumber jack look for both men and women is in. I don’t own a plaid jacket yet but when I do it will be lumber jack red and I will use it when I go outside to cut wood. I’ll look like a pro!

#7 Large Shoulders

Shoulder pads are in? Is that hockey shoulder pads or shoulder pads shoulder pads. Eww I always hated Big shoulders…women are supposed to have little soft shoulders not 80’s style square shoulders. If I get a shirt or dress and the thing has shoulder pads the first thing I do is take them out. Shoulder pads are LAME! Don’t do it…it looks so stupid. Then again if you have a young shild who always sleeps in your arms those shoulder pads could come in handy!

#8 Perplum

Perplum…I’m even laughing at the word. Perplum is over exaggerated hips. Okay Big shoulders and big hips too? I’m sticking with Last years fall trends, screw this year’s! What was last years trends anyway? Whatever, perplum looks dumb too.Look at the picture below! Polka Dot perplum! RAWR!

#9 Leather

Dominatrix style leather is in right now but I’m just going to pretend that it’s not and cute leather biker jackets are in. I own a pair of leather boots too. Pairing up a leather jacket with a cute T-shirt is always cool looking…wearing skin tight leather on the other hand is meant to remain in the bedroom. And if you are over 40 PLEASE don’t don cougar style leather EVER!

Above pic: CREEPY!

Below Pic: Cute. Well I’m only saying cute because that’s a picture of me in a leather jacket and HEY LOOK a Superman T-shirt! WIN!

#10 Black and White

I bet you black and white is in IF it’s Black and white Perplum with Polka Dots and lace paired with a dominatrix style black leather jacket. Or maybe Checkerboard black and white? Or how about we just accept that ANY style of Black and white is rending and just be happy abut it. I love Black and white, I have lots of black and white…more black than white BUT I have black and white.

Above is Black and white done right. It’s also Polka Dot done right and bold (The shoes) done right as well as Men’s wear done right. If your going to do men’s wear pair it up with a skirt or dress. I might just try that, I just need a polka dot dress! 😉

And that’s My fall fashion report. Don’t take all my opinions seriously unless you want to…I’m not fashionable at all, in fact I still wear some clothes I wore in highschool!
