Blogging for Beginners

Posted: February 11, 2014 in Uncategorized

I was asked by a few family members for a few tips on how to blog and how to blog effectively. And while there are thousands of other blogs about how to blog this one is written specially for them (And I guess perhaps for a few who come across my blog)

Step 1: Choose a Blog platform. is an easy format but wordpress has many more tools available. So I will explain the basics of wordpress. First you will want to go to and click on create a blog. It’s free as long as you use the in the name of your blog. Instead of mine being it’s You will create a name for your blog as well as a web adress for it. You can have the name of your blog and web address the same to make it simpler.

Step 2: choose a theme for your blog. There are lots of really neat templates available to choose. You will be able to preview them before choosing. You should click on “Free” on the top right corner where all the templates are. Once you choose a template you can get started.

Step 3: Write your blog. Choose a topic that interests you, use the blog as an online diary to keep family and friends updated, use it to show people the latest do it yourself art-the possibilities are endless. All you have to do is click “Add new post” a quick way to find this is to scroll over the name of your blog on the top left side of your screen, click on “New” and voila get writting.

Step 4: Tools! The tools are quite easy. Adding media allows you to post pictures on the blog, you can use Bold or itallics when writing etc.

Tips for a successful and fun blog: Always read what you write out loud, if it makes sense to you post it, if not try writting again. Remember the blog should be in your voice. Blogs are not meant to be essays they are meant to be fun, creative and YOU! Post lots of great pictures too. Make the blogs short unless they are engaging (Ie you are blogging a trip somewhere) and post daily or at the very least weekly. Once you post you can view your saved post and you can copy the link and post it to facebook or twitter or where ever.

Oh and before posting don’t forget to give your blog a category (to the right) and add tags-if you are writing about art you can include words like “art” “Butterflies” etc.

Have fun!

Also I think I’ll be posting more often. 🙂 Love you all! xoxoxoxoxox
